In the Book 1 Peter, Chapter 5, Peter gives reference to tending the Flock of God: “Now as an elder myself and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I exhort the elders among you to tend the flock of God that is in your charge, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion but willingly, as God would have you do.”
The Church Council at Emmanuel consists of 12 members elected by the Congregation during the annual meeting plus our Pastor. In addition, the treasurer and financial secretary are Officers of the Congregation but are non-voting members of Council. Members serve on the Council for a three year term and are eligible to serve two consecutive terms, if they so desire.
The Council members for 2014 are as follows:
- Vince Glorioso President
- Carville Downes Vice President
- Adrienne Trout Recording Secretary
- Dennise Stickley Corresponding Secretary
- Tammy Leary Treasurer
- Marianne Prather Financial Secretary
- Weezer Allen Jr. Councilperson
- Ginny Cooper Councilperson
- Mike Dausch Councilperson
- David Miller Councilperson
- Nancy Pieters Councilperson
- Pierre Pieters Councilperson
- John Roth Councilperson
- Charlotte Tarman Councilperson
- Pastor Bob
The Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month to review the matters of the Church, including but not limited to financial review as compared to the approved budget, ministry team concerns, physical property issues, upcoming events, and other items of interest as they might arise. During two meetings per quarter, a brief Bible Study takes place so that members can focus on certain Biblical principles as reminders to why we are called to such a position on the Council. In addition, devotions are always done at the meeting openings, on a rotating basis by each Council member, and we close with prayers for current concerns raised by all who are present.
It is an extremely rewarding experience, working with a close knit group of outstanding people during the course of a year, to serve the Lord and to represent our Congregation in the management of the Church. If you have any interest in becoming a member, or want to see how the Council functions, please contact one of its members and consider attending one of the meetings as an invitee, so that you might have a better idea if you would like to become a member in the future.
